If you've been a subscriber for a while (thank you), you know I pick a "word of the year" to guide my efforts and goals.
Previous years included:
Discipline
Focus
My word for 2025 was intention, and it defined everything. I brought intention to my work, my relationship, and my health - and it genuinely changed my life.
2025 was the best year of my life. 2026 is already looking better. I'm getting married, and my new business (Breakwater M&A) has unbelievable momentum.
This puts a lot of (self-imposed) pressure on my defining word for 2026, but I've settled on excellence.
Excellence in my relationship
Excellence in my workouts and health
Excellence in the quality of my work
And more importantly, cutting out anything that holds me back from being my best.
Excellence, more than anything else, is a commitment to yourself. By building on previous years- eliminating distractions (focus), being consistent despite obstacles (discipline), and leveraging your energy (intention) - excellence becomes achievable.
"Waste no more time arguing about what a good man should be. Be one."

idea of the week 💡

Problem: Pet owners have no way to monitor their pet's health between vet visits, often missing early warning signs of dental disease, eye problems, skin conditions, or mobility issues until they become expensive emergencies.
Idea: Build "Between Vet Visits," a pet health tracking app that uses photo analysis to detect early signs of health problems. Pet owners photograph their pet's teeth, eyes, skin, or gait and receive instant AI-powered health insights.
How it helps: Catches subtle warning signs weeks or months earlier than owners would notice on their own, prevents costly emergency vet bills, provides peace of mind for anxious pet parents, and creates valuable health data that pet insurers and vet clinics want access to.
Why it might fail: Pet owners may not trust AI health analysis without vet validation, building accurate visual analysis across different breeds and conditions is technically challenging, and converting free users to paid subscribers could be difficult if the basic features feel insufficient.
